Situated among the rolling green hills of the Šalek Valley, with the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and Pohorje Mountains to the west, and east respectively, Velenje is embraced by nature on all sides. However, despite being less than an hour's drive form Slovenia's three largest urban centres (Ljubljana, Maribor and Celje) and being the country's 5th largest city itself, Velenje, is still largley undiscoverd by tourists, both domestic and foregin.

Velenje is a youthful regional capital, that is just waiting to be explored on day-trip or a long weekend away.

Our town - modern and state-of-the-art

Velenje now boasts one additional feature.
At its 55th anniversary, the refurbishment of the old promenade has brought an air of modernity to the city centre.

The Velenje promenade, which was built in the 1970s, was in desperate need of refurbishment due to its aged fittings. Some utilities also needed to be replaced, as did the bridge over the river Paka.

The Municipality of Velenje successfully obtained an EUR 2 million grant from European funds as well as EUR 320 thousand from the state budget for renovating the promenade. A total of EUR 3.7 million was invested in the Renovation of the Velenje city centre project. However, the returns can be observed daily through the final image of the city centre and the spirits of the many locals that attended the grand opening.

Slovenia

Slovenia is the only country in Europe that brings together the Alps and Mediterranean, the plains of Pannonia and the Karst. You will always be surprised by the variety of Slovenia's regions. While watching the sea, you just need to turn your glance to view high mountains. You can see green pastures while ascending through the woods. From a mountain meadow you can enjoy the sight of a river gorge. Slovenia is well-known for the amalgamation of its contrasts and opposites.
